Abstract

AbstractDigital games have become increasingly prevalent in the lives of school children, raising concerns about their impact on academic performance and socio-emotional development. This research explores the multifaceted effects of digital games on school-aged children, examining both positive and negative outcomes across cognitive, behavioral, and social domains. Through a comprehensive literature review and empirical analysis, this study aims to elucidate how digital games influence cognitive abilities such as problem-solving and spatial awareness, as well as behavioral aspects including attention span and aggression. Additionally, the research investigates the social implications of gaming, including effects on peer relationships and social skills development. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, data was gathered from surveys, interviews, and academic performance records of elementary and middle school students. Findings suggest that while digital games can enhance certain cognitive skills and provide opportunities for social interaction, excessive gaming may correlate with academic underachievement and behavioral issues. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the nuanced impacts of digital games on school children, offering insights into effective strategies for balancing the benefits and risks associated with gaming in educational settings.
